SUMMARY:Discovering Dragonflies project launch
DESCRIPTION:Discovering Dragonflies launches on 22 July at Ferne Animal Sanctuary\, near Chard\, with a day packed full of activities. \nA host of dragonfly-themed activities\, including free bookable sessions on willow weaving\, jewellery making and junk modelling.  Also happening throughout the day will be pond dipping\, a special dragonfly trail\, and drop-in crafts too. Most of the activities will be undercover\, so it’ll be a great day out\, whatever the weather. \nThere will also be displays at Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s visitor centre to inform people about the project and how they can get involved\, along with some fascinating insights into the lives of dragonflies. \nDiscovering Dragonflies is a new project\, (run by Ferne Animal Sanctuary and supported by the National Lottery)\, aimed at raising awareness\, inspiring and teaching people about dragonflies and our natural heritage. \nDragonflies were around 50 million years before the first dinosaurs appeared. They are beautiful\, inquisitive\, incredibly aerobatic\, territorial\, and fantastic to watch. Making them fascinating subjects to learn about. \nThis launch event will showcase taster sessions of some of the dragonfly-themed events that will be happening over the next 14 months. \nAfter the launch\, the project will offer a host of activities and workshops focused on dragonflies running throughout the year including dragonfly-themed courses to get people thinking creatively about conservation – from photography and willow-weaving to jewellery-making and sculpture.
