DESCRIPTION:We’ll be exploring “why\, what\, where and how” to plant trees with a specific focus on the River Culm catchment\, which is a priority area for tackling water quality through tree planting. \nRegister here. \nOur speakers include: \n\nJon Burgess (Forestry Commission Local Partnership Advisor)\nChris Sorenson (Forestry Commission Woodland Resilience Officer)\nKarl Forte(Forestry Commission Woodland Officer for East Devon and Exmoor)\nRosie Cotgreave\, (Devon Wildlife Trust\, Saving Devon’s Treescapes Project Officer)\n\nTopics covered will include: \n\nHow trees can help address climate change and biodiversity loss\, including through carbon sequestration and flood and drought risk reduction.\nWhere to plant\, using the Right Tree Right Place principle and what this means for historic features and wildflower meadows.\nHow the Forestry Commission is planning woodlands that are resilient to climate change\, which species are recommended for different conditions.\nHow woodland creation and maintenance grants work and how to apply for them.\nCommunity tree-planting\, seed-gathering and the Saving Devon’s Treescapes project.\n\nWe’ll also be looking at how the Connecting the Culm Catchment Model can be used to calculate the impact of tree-planting on flood and drought levels under different climate change scenarios. \nFollowed by questions\, a discussion session\, and a meeting of the Connecting the Culm Nature-Based Solutions Working Group. \nPicture credit: Jeni Fulton-Price \n
